The CoaXPress interface and proposed standard has been developed by the CoaXPress Consortium - a consortium of industrial companies as listed below. The draft v1.0 specification and all associated materials, have been handed over to the Japanese Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA) as a proposal for an international standard for CoaXPress. JIIA intends to host and publish the specification as an open, royalty-free standard. JIIA are one of the world's leading trade associations in the industrial vision and imaging industry.

The European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) and the America based Automated Imaging Association (AIA) are trade associations representing Europe and North America respectively. Both are now forming liaison groups to get involved with the standardization process in line with the new G3 Agreement. These liaison groups will have access to the draft specification and will be able to contribute to the standardization process to make CoaXPress a true world-wide standard.

In the medium term, the CoaXPress Consortium will provide support to JIIA and the various liaison groups developing the standard, and also provide advice and consultancy to companies who are not members of the above trade associations but would like to become early adopters of the standard.

The CoaXPress Consortium consists of the following companies:
